2025 Ford Expedition Price, Pictures, Release Date & More | Kelley Blue Book (2024)

Our highest-rated full-size SUV and the segment’s reigning Best Buy Award winner is in line to see a range of improvements for 2025. We expect pricing to start at around $60,000.

When it comes to executing change in the world of big, honking SUVs like the Expedition, Chevrolet Suburban/GMC Yukon, and Toyota Sequoia, less is more comes to mind. In other words, styling and space-management changes are usually evolutionary and sometimes obscure to the casual observer. We suspect such will be the case in the anticipated freshening of the 2025 Expedition. We think Ford will invest most of its efforts in fine-tuning the advanced driver-assist and infotainment/connectivity technologies. The latter will likely entail an overhaul of the instrument panel and other components of the driver command center. What won’t change is the Expedition’s penchant for getting things done, be it carting the family to Grandma’s in comfort, towing a load, or enabling any number of other strenuous errands.

What’s New for 2025

Ford has said little, but for 2025 we expect updated styling front and rear, as well as enhancements to the advanced driver-assist and infotainment/connectivity technologies.

On-Sale Date

The 2025 Ford Expedition should go on sale in the fall of 2024.

2025 Ford Expedition Pricing

Expect the 2025 Ford Expedition to start at around $60,000. We have no reason to think Ford will tinker with the outgoing Expedition’s trim-level lineup. Consequently, our estimated starting price is for the entry-level XL STX and includes the factory-to-dealer delivery fee. Perched atop the trim hierarchy is the Platinum grade with an estimated beginning price of about $86,000. If your tastes run to smaller, we point you to the Ford Explorer for about $18,000 less. If you want bigger, well, reach for the Expedition Max. It adds overall length to the body and $3,000 to the bottom line.

Expedition XL STX$60,000 (estimated)
Expedition XLT$64,000 (estimated)
Expedition Limited$73,000 (estimated)
Expedition Timberline$76,000 (estimated)
Expedition King Ranch$83,000 (estimated)
Expedition Platinum$86,000 (estimated)

These are estimated manufacturer’s suggested retail prices (MSRP) and include the factory-to-dealer delivery fee (destination charge).

Buyers should also check out the Chevrolet Tahoe starting in the high-50s and its bigger Suburban sibling from the low-60s. The GMC Yukon (same size as the Tahoe) starts in the low-60s. The Jeep Wagoneer begins in the mid-60s, with the Toyota Sequoia beginning in the low-60s. The updated-for-2024 Nissan Armada begins in the low 50s.

Before buying a new Expedition SUV, check the Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price to know what you should be paying. Expedition resale value is about typical for the segment. Recouping more money when you sell a vehicle can mean a bigger down payment and lower monthly payments on your next one.

Power, Ride, And Handling

We believe Ford won’t tinker with the Expedition’s powertrain for 2025. In other words, we expect every Expedition will employ a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6. Outputs go from a perfectly respectable 380 horsepower to 440. This latter version goes into the Timberline model and the Stealth Performance package, enabling a standstill-to-60 mph time of around six seconds, which is remarkable for a full-size SUV weighing more than 2.5 tons. Even with the more modest power, tackling uphill stretches and reaching freeway speeds present no problems. For comparison, the base engine in the Chevy Tahoe and Suburban makes 355 horsepower. The pricier Toyota Sequoia runs with 437 horses.

In our testing, we have found the Expedition can be a little ponderous around town. Parking can be an exercise in patience. However, once on the freeway, it settles into a relaxed rhythm, eating up the miles. We argue that the Expedition’s ride quality is in the top tier of its segment. The independent rear suspension translates into a refined ride quality and allows a flat load-space floor when the third-row seats are folded down. Most versions of the Expedition also offer the option of adaptive dampers for an even more sophisticated ride quality. Maximum towing is a substantial 9,300 pounds — one of the best figures in the class, although the Sequoia is slightly better.

We’ve spent hundreds of hours driving and researching the current collection of full-size SUVs, including the Ford Expedition.

Fuel Economy

Unless it’s a Timberline, expect the Expedition to return 19 combined mpg with its rear-wheel-drive setup. With 4-wheel drive, subtract one mile per gallon from each figure. The Timberline (with 4-wheel drive as standard) achieves 17 combined mpg.

Wide-Open Spaces

We look for Ford to overhaul the Expedition’s instrument panel to accommodate a larger infotainment screen. This will entail a substantial change from the current setup. Traditionally, the Expedition provides plenty of stretching-out room, as well as lots of space for luggage and other cargo. This won’t change.

Looking the Part

A mid-cycle refresh often includes updating the face and tail of the vehicle in question. We expect the Expedition’s refresh to follow suit. Think beefy and bold.

Engine & Transmission

Ford gets a lot of metaphorical mileage out of the twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 that powers every version of the 2024 Expedition. It makes a minimum of 380 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque.

In the Limited and King Ranch and Platinum models, this unit develops 400 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque. In the Timberline and Limited Stealth Performance variants, it’s boosted even further to 440 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque. All these figures are achieved with premium gasoline.

Rear-wheel drive is the default setup, with 4-wheel drive available as an option, although the Timberline has its own 4-wheel-drive system as standard. A 10-speed automatic transmission is deployed across the board.

3-Year/36,000-Mile Warranty

Ford’s new-vehicle warranty lasts three years or 36,000 miles, whichever happens first. Powertrains are covered for five years or 60,000 miles. These are typical terms among mainstream manufacturers.

Safety Ratings

This generation of Expedition has a maximum 5-Star overall score from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Standard safety features include forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, plus blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert and rear cross-traffic braking.

KBB Vehicle Review and Rating Methodology

Our Expert Ratings come from hours of both driving and number crunching to make sure that you choose the best car for you. We comprehensively experience and analyze every new SUV, car, truck, or minivan for sale in the U.S. and compare it to its competitors. When all that dust settles, we have our ratings.

We require new ratings every time an all-new vehicle or a new generation of an existing vehicle comes out. Additionally, we reassess those ratings when a new-generation vehicle receives a mid-cycle refresh — basically, sprucing up a car in the middle of its product cycle (typically, around the 2-3 years mark) with a minor facelift, often with updates to features and technology.

Rather than pulling random numbers out of the air or off some meaningless checklist, KBB’s editors rank a vehicle to where it belongs in its class. Before any car earns its KBB rating, it must prove itself to be better (or worse) than the other cars it’s competing against as it tries to get you to spend your money buying or leasing.

Our editors drive and live with a given vehicle. We ask all the right questions about the interior, the exterior, the engine and powertrain, the ride and handling, the features, the comfort, and of course, about the price. Does it serve the purpose for which it was built? (Whether that purpose is commuting efficiently to and from work in the city, keeping your family safe, making you feel like you’ve made it to the top — or that you’re on your way — or making you feel like you’ve finally found just the right partner for your lifestyle.)

We take each vehicle we test through the mundane — parking, lane-changing, backing up, cargo space and loading — as well as the essential — acceleration, braking, handling, interior quiet and comfort, build quality, materials quality, reliability.
