No point in just telling this to people. all these are known to people now by social media and all what the government needs to do is to take some measure to minimise the damage and save people life and help them... You know rain and flood and landslides are coming. But what did government do? Did they set some shelters in those areas? did they send officials to give them some help to people. do not wait till the problem comes but pre-plan what to do and how to deal.

People have been living with such rain and floods all their lives for generations but houses and buildings were more spaces out and did not cause flooding. This allowed for rainwater absorption by the ground and runoff to streams or canals. In recent years houses, buildings and roads were constructed in rural areas without much attention given to drainage/runoff of rainwater and wastewater ponds. Now in modern times these areas are more populated. Villages have become cities. Dense construction with concrete and tarred roads block ground absorption of rainwater. This is why there is so much flooding during heavy rains.

Yes. We will vote for the opposition parties. Monday, 03 June 2024 07:39 AM

We see Govt. departments and armed forces work hard to help people in difficulties. Machineries moving earth and fallen trees. While all these are going on what is the role of other political parties? They are busy blowing their own trumps of propaganda. They boast of big crowd at meetings, but could give a single volunteer to help ease the misery. And they want our votes? Yes. We will vote.

SL had always torrential rainfalls in the past in my living memory and will have such in the future. No living being could stop that. You could try praying to god, but IMHO nothing will change,As for the flooding, it is you the citizens, who have to change. Do not blame the government or the municipality technical staff either. It is YOU who have blocked and covered up the drains, built on the traditional storm water ponding areas, and paved the earth preventing the soil from absorbing the storm water. It is the ignorant, inconsiderate, and selfish citizenry who have to take the blame or the responsibility. As for the politicians, they overrule the professionals and pooh, pooh their advice in majority of the instances for their own gain or to apiece a voter. Sorry, pl. do not come begging to contribute for the relief efforts. If you all get together and do the 'Sramadana' you should be able to avoid future disasters,
