Baldur's Gate 3 gives Tav companions of various classes to help round out the party's combat abilities. He might not be thrilled when Tav doesn't return his feelings, but he generally accepts the situation when it's clear he doesn't have a chance. Just in case Tav doesn't understand how unpleasant the process of becoming a Mind Flayer is, Gale emphasizes that they need to remove the tadpole as soon as possible to avoid ceremorphosis.
